N2 - Vietnamese scientists are performing better international collaboration, but it also means that they are more dependent on their work to be published by overseas peers. Through scientific production, an early assessment of Vietnam's Social Science and Humanities (SSH) sectors' capacity for domestic research is being made in the current study. The study examines several issues, such as prominent Vietnamese writers, solitary authors, gender differences, and domestic and international collaborative networks. The study uses information from the exclusive SSH Peer Awards (SSHPA) database on 2041 Vietnamese authors of SSH, 1982 authors from other countries, and 3163 articles from 2008 to 2019. According to the findings, there has been a consistent increase in the contribution of eminent domestic writers to SSH research, growing at a pace of roughly 23.35% every year. Moreover, scholars from Vietnam lead 76.27% of publications. In 2019, at 56.85%, the share quickly increased and outpaced the proportion of articles containing Vietnamese author's overseas collaborators. There has been a discernible growth in the network of domestic research collaboration. However, with an average participation percentage of 36.31%, women's engagement in SSH research was shallow. Gender discrimination persists despite rising self-sufficiency lists for Vietnamese SSH scholars and organizations. Advise policymakers to support self-sustaining research, cross-country cooperation, and researcher empowerment to maintain the public's confidence in SSH research and to strengthen and expand the intellectual community and their ability for research.
