Abstract
In 2005, the Indian government initiated the Janani Suraksha Yojana, which aims to increase institutional delivery and thereby reduce maternal and neonatal deaths. To encourage women to give birth in a health hospital, the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a conditional cash transfer scheme. The scheme replaces the national maternity benefit scheme. The present study was carried out to find out the current status of service Janani Suraksha Yojana in district of Aligarh. A field cross sectional study was conducted in Aligarh, among 210 beneficiaries. The respondents were interviewed using in-depth interviewed schedule questionnaire. The objective of this study is twofold: (i) To examine the level of awareness among women about the scheme; and (ii) To assess the utilization of Janani Suraksha Yojana among the women in Aligarh district. The present study found that 96 out of 210 (45.7%) respondents were aware about the scheme. There was no association between education and awareness about JSY. Increasing awareness about the Janani Suraksha Yojana through information, education, and communication (IEC) activities. Barriers to utilization of health care service and facilities at the Aligarh districts must be identified and addressed in district level planning health.
