Abstract
The present investigation was an attempt to explore the supportive and defensive communication climate among subordinate staff of Salman bin Abdulaziz University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The sample consisted of 336 subordinate staff working in various departments of the university. Gibb's (1961) communication climate inventory was used to assess the feelings of subordinate staff. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were applied to analyze the data. The results revealed that neutrality and empathy was found most prominent facets of defensive and supportive communication climate, the correlation between neutrality and other facets of defensive communication climate were found significant whereas, correlation between empathy and provisionalism & spontaneity of supportive communication were found significant, effect of age on supportive communication climate was observed significant and gender did not appear significant factor in the study. The investigation suggested some measures for effectiveness of communication at workplace based on findings.
