Abstract

The paper deals with a comparison between three DTC strategies: (i) the original one introduced by Takahashi which is based on an empirical approach, (ii) a strategy based on an analytical approach which takes into account the torque dynamic considering four quadrant operation, and (iii) an extension of the second approach considering twelve 'active' voltage space vectors. It has been found that a reduction of the commutation frequency has been gained going from the first strategy to the third one. This opens up crucial efficiency benefits, as far as the commutation losses in the inverter are considerably reduced.
