N2 - In Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), due to user mobility, battery power limitations and wireless link characteristics, end-to-end connections are frequently interrupted and need to be rerouted in the network. Therefore, the existence of a route between the source-destination pair is not guaranteed and then the routing in MANETs becomes a challenging task. Hence, the reliability of this time varying and location dependent channel should be increased and supported. The path redundancy scheme, which establishes multiple routes for the same connection, is suggested to support the reliability by increasing the probability of success-fully delivering data packets. However, this scheme is wasting resources of the already scarce resources environment. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce a new approach to multipath cluster-based routing protocol, which is named a Localized Cluster-based Rerouting and Resource Reservation Protocol (LC3R), with no waste of network bandwidth. LC3R can improve the network stability and reliability by utilizing multipath cluster-based routing and packet level redundancy over primary and secondary clusterhead chains. The main route can be established through the primary clusterheads, while the backup route can be established through the secondary clusterheads. In this study, we show how this approach can achieve a high packet delivery rate with no more overhead.
