Abstract
The present study assessed the association between warfarin knowledge and quality of life (QoL) among patients on warfarin. A cross-sectional study was conducted among patients on warfarin in Pakistan. Warfarin knowledge was evaluated using a self-developed and pre-validated questionnaire whereas QoL was measured using WHOQOL-BREF. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to ex-amine patients’ demographic characteristics and to determine the association among different variables. Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used to determine the association between various study variables. Out of 295 patients, females were more than males (n = 257, 66.4% and n = 130, 33.6% respectively). The mean knowledge score for the study participants was 6.62 ± 2.68. The mean scores for the physical (62.44 ± 15.36), psychological (67.84 ± 15.54), social relationship (64.27 ± 26.28) and environment domains (63.45 ± 17.66) were observed. The correlation coefficients for all four domains of the WHOQOL-BREF vs total warfarin knowledge score were-0.012,-0.125,-0.058, and-0.074 respectively. Statistically, a significant weak inverse correlation (p > 0.05) was observed between the psychological domain of the WHOQOL-BREF vs total warfarin knowledge score. In other words, just providing warfarin knowledge does not nec-essarily improve QoL among patients on warfarin in Pakistan.
