Abstract
A new series of 6-iodo-2-thienylquinazolin-4(3H)-one and its fused heterocyclic analogs were prepared and screened for their antimicrobial activity. Compounds 4, 8, 14 and 24 showed remarkable broad spectrum antimicrobial activity. The fused heterocycles, 1,2,4-triazino[3,4-c]quinazoline, benzimidazo[1,2-c]quinazoline and quinazoline-bearing thiazolidinone moiety proved to contribute for antimicrobial activity. The detailed synthesis and their antimicrobial screening are reported.
