Abstract

The objective of this paper is to measure the 3 × 3 admittance model of a three-phase voltage source converter (VSC) from time-domain data and utilize this model for stability analysis. A VSC is viewed as a 3 × 3 admittance from its dc-link side and ac side in a dq-frame. Via Kron reduction of the 3 × 3 admittance model, this paper demonstrates the effect of AC side impedance on the scalar admittance viewed from the DC side as well as the effect of DC side impedance on the 2 × 2 admittance viewed from the AC side. 3 × 3 admittance enables us to conduct stability analysis for a DC/AC coupled system as a whole. In the stability analysis demonstration, we demonstrate the capability of eigenvalue calculation by varying AC side impedance or DC side impedance. This capability is a big improvement from the state of the art.
