N2 - In this paper, one terminal reaching law based sliding mode (TRL-SMC) under direct thrust control (DTC) is proposed for the linear induction machine (LIM) to improve the dynamic response of the LIM in terms of the faster transient response, smother steady-state operation, smaller tracking error and lower thrust ripple than those of the conventional DTC (CDTC) and exponential reaching law based SMC (ERL-SMC) with DTC, persuasively. The TRL-SMC based DTC is fully compared with the CDTC and existing ERL-SMC based DTC under the different working scenarios through the extensive experimentation on a prototype of two 3 kW arc induction machines.
