Abstract

We present the generation of noise-like pulse (NLP) in a compact passive mode-locked fiber laser by integrating a saturable absorber (SA) based on tapered fiber embedded in tungsten oxide (WO3) composite integrated in an erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser cavity. The laser generates NLP with central wavelength of 1602.37 nm, 3-dB spectral bandwidth of 21.73 nm, maximum average output power 5.34 mW, and operates at a fundamental frequency of 6.44 MHz. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of NLP generation via tungsten oxide tapered fiber SA.
