Abstract

To improve plans to increase the contribution of pharmacists and physicians in antimicrobial stewardship programs, understanding their viewpoint and knowledge of antimicrobial use and antimicrobial resistance is vital. Therefore, the present study was a cross-sectional study that was done in Riyadh city using a self-administered questionnaire and aimed to describe the knowledge of antibiotic use and resistance among pharmacists and physicians in Riyadh. More than 55% of the pharmacists and 70% of the physicians who filled out the survey were males. The present study showed that pharmacists and physicians had good knowledge about antibiotic use but still there is a gap in their knowledge about antibiotic resistance. It would be necessary to implement educational campaigns to increase awareness of healthcare workers on antibiotic use and bacterial resistance.
