Abstract

Increasing awareness worldwide about water scarcity and energy consumption has pushed researchers to enhance their effort toward the search for sustainable management of water resources and the use of renewable energy in water sector. Water scarcity and energy supply and demand are particularly critical issues in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The goal of this chapter is to explore the idea of utilizing renewable energy sources for desalination of seawater and brackish water and discuss designing innovative hybrid water desalination systems that work with renewable energy sources.
