Abstract

The aim of this study is to establish a simple, precise, accurate, and reproducible High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method that has been validated and verified for usage of eye drop formulations with the aqueous distillate of Cyperus scariosus R. Br. The relative complexity of the spectrum and the overall location of wavelength maxima are crucial for identifying unknown substances. Acetonitrile and water were chosen as the mobile phases at a rate of 2 ml/ min and the detecting wavelength was set at 230 nm. The linearity, accuracy, and precision were examined. The system proved suitable for additional analysis based on the carveol in eye drop of C. scariosus aqueous distillate, % Coefficients of variation (CV) values for area and retention duration were determined to be less than 2 %. The retention time (RT) for standard carveol was found to be 10.080 at (%) concentration 1.25, 10.070 at (%) concentration 2.5, 9.927 at (%) concentration 5 and 9.953 at (%) concentration 10. Each formulation contained (1:16) of plant roots aqueous distillate. Test sample of C. scariosus aqueous and finished eye drop formulation contained 3.06 % and 3.00 % of carveol respectively.
