Abstract

In this paper, balanced antipodal Vivaldi antenna is developed for microwave imaging applications. The proposed antenna has overall size 94×64×9.14 mm, and operates at frequency values from 500 MHz. The antenna thus allows good penetration in human tissue and provides a small foot-print on the imaged object. The paper presents optimization of the developed antenna. Investigation of the background medium is also presented. The return loss parameter is monitored in the presence of an anomaly model of a tumor in the tissue. Results indicate that the presented structure is promising in developing microwave imaging systems.
